We will start from Piazza del Gesù, one of the most famous squares in the city, and the Monastery of S. Chiara, famous for its cloister with majolica tiles and a traditional nativity scene with shepherds from the 17th and 18th centuries.
We continue along the lower Decumano, the road that cuts the city in two and which the Neapolitans call Spaccanapoli, up to Piazza San Domenico Maggiore with the magnificent Basilica of S. Domenico.
Near Piazza San Domenico Maggiore we will find the Sansevero Chapel which houses the famous Veiled Christ, an extraordinary work by the Neapolitan artist Giuseppe Sanmartino.
We will then pass through Piazzetta Nilo, which takes its name from the statue dedicated to the god Nile, with the church of S. Angelo a Nilo built between the end of the third and beginning of the fourth century, and the Sacro Monte di Pietà, a 16th century palace with inside the splendid Cappella della Pietà.
Spaccanapoli then crosses Via San Gregorio Armeno with its artisans’ shops, famous and known throughout the world as Via dei Presepi.
We will walk along Via San Gregorio Armeno and at the end we will find ourselves in the decumanus major, which corresponds to today’s Via dei Tribunali, and precisely in Piazza San Gaetano where the Basilica of San Paolo Maggiore and the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore are located. located.
Continuing we will come across the Church of Santa Maria delle Anime del Purgatorio in Arco, where the ancient cult of the souls in Purgatory was practiced, which the Neapolitans called "beggarly souls".
The tour will end with our arrival in Piazza Bellini, one of the busiest squares in the historic center of Naples, surrounded by monumental buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries, and where it is possible to admire some remains of the walls of Greek Neapolis.
