Cilento Food and Wine Tour

The Cilento is a wonderful area located between the Gulf of Salerno and the Gulf of Policastro.

The Cilento includes the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, the archaeological sites of Paestum and Velia and the Certosa di Padula, recognized as cultural heritage by UNESCO.

The National Park is a UNESCO Mab Biosphere Reserve area and has been included in the UNESCO Geoparks network thanks to the beautiful and numerous karst caves.

The Cilento is also the homeland of the Mediterranean diet, a term coined in the mid-1970s by American scientists Ancel and Margaret Keys to identify a traditional lifestyle; their studies showed that the longevity of the populations of southern Italy, particularly of Naples, Cilento and the rest of Campania, could be explained by dietary habits, social customs and local productions.

The Mediterranean diet was inscribed in 2010 on the list of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage.
