For all those who want to visit Procida there is now also the possibility of an excursion to Vivara, which after years of closure is now reopened to the public, a path of great charm and little explored so far.
Vivara is a small crescent-shaped island connected by a pedestrian bridge to the island of Procida, it has an area of about 36 hectares and is a protected naturalistic oasis, a true natural paradise that hosts various species of flora and fauna.
Vivara is what remains of an ancient submerged volcano about 55,000 years ago and is connected to Procida – precisely from the promontory of Santa Margherita in Marina Chiaiolella – by a bridge that can only be traveled on foot and immersed in the Mediterranean vegetation.
Vivara was at the center of maritime traffic of the ancient Greeks and has some Neolithic remains and a Mycenaean village, as well as more recent remains of noble and colonial buildings
Its seabed is rich in marine plants and attracts snorkelers and scuba divers
The main path that joins the two extreme ends of the island, Capitiello and Punta Mezzogiorno, can be covered with a walk of about an hour and a half.
In Vivara there are numerous places from which to admire the panorama of Procida and Ischia, and in the distance also Capri, in particular from the Belvedere Tavola del Re.
Visits to Vivara are allowed only on specific days and at specific times, by reservation and for a fee, and in the company of a nature guide authorized by the Vivara Island State Nature Reserve.
Come and visit the Campi Flegrei, places full of charm await you.
